learn to write drum scores
It's one thing to play music someone else has written. But the best way to master any instrument in the drum corps is to come up with your own scores. As you master drumming rudiments, you will learn how to assemble them into a complete drum score. You will learn how note values must add up to a balanced score. And you will learn how to write your scores in computer programs to be saved and edited at any time.
Unlike the pipe corps which generally plays traditional music which has already been written, the music for the drum corps is unique to each band. Normally, the lead drummer of the drum corps will write an original drum score for each tune. You will learn how to listen to a pipe arrangement and develop a complementary drum score, understanding note values and time signatures.
